How to Install the Mouse Driver

Currently the driver only works with Windows 2000/XP. To install, follow the instructions below.

Windows 2000

To install the driver:

  1. All your input devices must be working under Windows (i.e. the old version of the USB driver must not be running, the device should not be disabled etc.)
  2. You must be Administrator.
  3. Select "System" from the control panel.
  4. Select the "Hardware" tab.
  5. Click "Device Manager".
  6. Expand the "Mice and other pointing devices"-tree.
  7. Double-click on the desired input device.
  8. Select the "Driver" tab.
  9. Click "Update Driver".
  10. Click "Next"
  11. Select the proper subsection below.

PS/2

  1. Make sure "Display a list of known drivers..." is selected.
  2. Click "Next".
  3. Click "Have Disk".
  4. Select the correct location (This is typically C:\\Program Files\\CPN Tools\\Mouse driver).
  5. Click "Ok".
  6. Select "CPN Tools mouse filter driver PS/2"
  7. Click "Next".
  8. Click "Yes".
  9. Click "Next".
  10. Click "Yes".
  11. Click "Finish" and you're done.

Serial/USB

  1. Make sure "Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended)" is selected.
  2. Click "Next".
  3. Make sure "Specify a location" is the only option selected.
  4. Enter the correct location for the driver files (This is typically C:\\Program Files\\CPN Tools\\Mouse driver).
  5. Click "Ok".
  6. If Windows finds a "CPN Tools mouse filter driver" device, simply click "Next", then "Yes", "Finish", and you're done.
  7. Otherwise, select "Install one of the other drivers".
  8. Click "Next".
  9. Click "Yes"
  10. Select the "CPN Tools mouse filter driver". If this is not available, check [[How to determine VID and GID]] for information.
  11. Click "Next".
  12. Click "Finish", and you're done.

Windows XP

To install the USB driver, simply:

  1. All your input devices must be working under Windows (i.e. the old version of the USB driver must not be running, the device should not be disabled etc.)
  2. You must be Administrator.
  3. Select "System" from the control panel. If "System" is not visible, click "Select classic view" at the left of the window.
  4. Select the "Hardware" tab.
  5. Click "Device Manager".
  6. Expand the "Mice and other pointing devices"-tree.
  7. Double-click on the desired input device.
  8. Select the "Driver" tab.
  9. Click "Update Driver".
  10. Make sure "Install from a list or specific location" is checked.
  11. Click "Next"
  12. Make sure "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install" is checked.
  13. Click "Next".
  14. Click "Have Disk".
  15. Select the correct location (This is typically C:\\Program Files\\CPN Tools\\Mouse driver).
  16. Click "Ok".
  17. Select the correct "CPN Tools mouse filter driver" (For USB and serial devices the correct is auto-detected, for PS/2 devices, all of USB, Serial and PS/2 are available; select PS/2 in this case).
  18. Click "Next".
  19. Click "Yes".
  20. Click "Continue Anyway".
  21. Click "Finish".
