There are a lot to choose from now-a-days. However I would recommend that you start with any of the 4th Generation languages and Object Oriented Languages. C++ and Java are probably your best options depending on your goal. By starting with OO languages you will be gaining skills for other major areas such as database development, UML and things like that. Well I hope that this is helpful.
