The Mjølner System includes a peersistent store for BETA where you may save and restore all BETA objects (almost). You are probably aware of this. In an Esprit research project we have developed together with Aarhus University an OODB based on this persistent store. This OODB supports a client-server architecture, concurrency conctrol, transactions and notifications. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a lage, slow, monolithic system. A new project, carried out by Johanna Wiederhold, Aarhus University, has developed an alternative to the OODB in the form of a number of frameworks for supporting a client-server setting, concurency control, transactions and notifications. The frameworks can then be used to configure an OODB. We hope to be able to include these frameworks in a coming version of the Mjølner System. We are currently using it in a large development project. I am not sure about exactly which version of the Mjølner System that is needed for the OODB frameworks, but perhaps a preliminary version can be made available. Please, note, that the peristent store and OODB is not suitable for applications with large amounts of objects. ---olm PS. There are no interfaces to other commercial OODBs. >Thanks in advance >Yahya Mirza >Visiting Member >Patterns Frameworks Group >University Of Illnois
