Path: news.daimi.aau.dk!glad From: Albertina Lourenci Newsgroups: comp.lang.beta Subject: Macintosh Date: 15 Jan 1996 15:18:53 GMT Organization: DAIMI, Computer Science Dept. at Aarhus University Lines: 47 Approved: mailtonews@daimi.aau.dk Distribution: world Message-ID: <4ddr8t$sd6@krone.daimi.aau.dk> NNTP-Posting-Host: daimi.daimi.aau.dk I have been getting information about which is the best platform for users to implement their projects in BETA - of course the computer scientists in Brazil do not even order BETA or Eiffel or CLOS books about OOP languages. Imagine when they will order the system| Maybe in the third millenium... People from computer science and mathematics in Brazil and I think it is the same all over the world, do not view research in human sciences or architecture and civil engineering as things that are worth to be developed. This hinders people from these fields to try to implement programs ... Things are going to get better for Brazilians at least because Macintosh will start being manufactured in Brazil from May on. This means less taxes. I was also informed that Pentium 586's performance is 80% slower than Power Macintosh| And everybody knows what it means to deal with PCs. It is fantastic to perceive that private industry is more receptive to progress than intellectuals all around the world| Instead of wanting to have cheaper and faster computers at a reasonable price for all and to improve the level of software and the quality of life all over the world, it is really hard for me to understand this logic. Mankind must learn to behave synergetically. Well I am mystics. Mystics are prone to perceive that when one wants something that will benefit mankind, one can be sure that the goal will be attained| Of course the four hundred computer industries in Brazil that will have to close their doors because the Market Law of Informatics is over are unhappy. But is it fair that a miserable people has been financing the informatization of Bank of Brazil and things of the gender? Is it fair that all users from environmental field, human sciences and so on cannot have access to qualified knowledge in computer science that is being developed all over the world and even the computer science students because national industry comes first? Intelligence and information must not evolve due to pragmatists concerns. In turn Mother Earth is running risk of a sudden catastrophe because our cities are not planned sustainably due to lack of urban ecological modelling.
