because I also want to know which platforms are best for BETA. I would
like to know if it is better to buy a Pentium 586 or a Macintosh, which
type. Which one would be cheaper? And if the performance would be
equivalent.

        I have saved your post because I found it greatly interesting,
even if I cannot claim an easy technical grasp of what you are saying.  I
am a doctoral student in practical theology who also does sort of humdrum
programming for a living.  But I have had an ongoing interest in what was
general systems theory and now self-organizing systems.

        I am interested in your description of BETA because of its
ability to represent patterns and not just hierarchically organized
objects.  Could you tell me what platform(s) it is available for and
where it is available.
