As a software developer who has authored several large commercial programs used throughout the world the compiler efficiency certainly becomes an important factor . Anything more than 50% worse than current C++ implementations would be unacceptable for a commercial developer. The size is not so important, for I am ready to accept the hypothesis that the frameworks and object re-usability may make an initial 250K program, but for a 1MB program you can accomplish as much in Beta as with C++. Any new commercial program of any significance is now developed with a frameworks, the two most popular being MicroSoft Visual C++ and Metrowerks PowerPlant. And the program size of a 'Hello World" application is quite large. -- Baiss E.
