I'm involved in a project using the Mjolner Beta system for constructing a platform independent hypermedia development framework (DEVISE Hypermedia, or just DHM). This framework makes it possible to construct hypermedia systems supporting an extended version of the Dexter Hypertext Reference Model. Currently hypermedia prototype systems built with the DHM framework exists for Macintosh (68K series), Sun 4/Sun 4 Solaris with Motif, and Windows/NT. The Sun versions exists in a multiuser version using the Mjolner Object Oriented Database. The other platforms currently use the single user Persistent Store library to store hypermedia object structures. On Macs and Windows hypermedia integrations with subsets of Microsoft Office and the Intergraph Microstation CAD system have been implemented. The Mac version also includes support for Quicktime movies. The DHM project and the OODB project involves several people working with hundreds of modules and classes and many thousand lines of BETA code. And we have really good experiences using the Mjolner BETA system. For more information on the DHM project, see papers in Communications of the ACM, February 1994 issue; the three previous ACM Hypertext/ECHT proceedings; and OOPSLA '94 proceedings. Info on getting demo versions can be found in my WWW page (address in signature). /Kaj Gronbak ------------------------------------------------------------------- / Kaj Gronbak, Computer Science Department, Aarhus University / / Ny Munkegade 116, Bld. 540, DK-8000 Aarhus C, DENMARK / / Email: kgronbak@daimi.aau.dk / / phone: (+45) 8942 3188 ext 3237 / direct: (+45) 8942 3237 / / telefax: (+45) 8942 3255 / home: (+45) 8616 4391 / / WWW: http://www.daimi.aau.dk/~kgronbak / ------------------------------------------------------------------- -- Kaj Gronbak, Computer Science Department | email: kgronbak@daimi.aau.dk Aarhus University, Ny Munkegade 116, | phone: +45 86 12 71 88 x 5057 DK-8000 Aarhus C, DENMARK | fax: +45 86 13 57 25
